Homework for Alphabet and counting immersion!

Primer Dia: Record yourself pronouncing words that start with: CH, H, B-V, G-J, y la ERRE o r.

Here are some examples I got from my friend deepseek! If you want to find your own fun words you can do so as well!

Vowels (A,E,I,O,U)

  1. A - Avión (airplane)

    • ah-bee-OHN

    • "Ah" (father), "bee" (bee), "ohn" (own)

  2. E - Elefante (elephant)

    • eh-leh-FAHN-teh

    • "Eh" (egg), "leh" (let), "fahn" (fun)

  3. I - Isla (island)

    • EE-slah

    • "Ee" (see), "slah" (slaw)

  4. O - Oso (bear)

    • OH-soh

    • "Oh" (open), "soh" (so)

  5. U - Uvas (grapes)

    • OO-vahs

    • "Oo" (moon), "vahs" (vast - soft 'V')


    B-V (Both sound like a soft English "B"—no "V" puff!)

  1. Barco → BAHR-koh (bahr like "bar," koh like "coat")

  2. Vaca → BAH-kah (bah like "bop," kah like "cot")

  3. Botella → boh-TEH-yah (boh like "bow," teh like "ten," yah like "yacht")

  4. Ventana → ben-TAH-nah (ben like "bend," tah like "taco")

  5. Bicicleta → bee-see-KLEH-tah (bee like "beet," kleh like "clay")


CH (Sounds like "ch" in "church")

  1. Chocolate → cho-ko-LAH-teh (cho like "choir," te like "teh")

  2. Chile → CHEE-leh (chee like "cheese," leh like "let" without the "t")

  3. Chico/a → CHEE-koh / CHEE-kah (chico = boy, chica = girl)

  4. Chaqueta → cha-KEH-tah (cha like "chop," keh like "kettle")

  5. Chiste → CHEES-teh (joke – "cheese" + "teh")


G (hard "G") & J (harsh "H")

  • G (before A/O/U or consonants) → Hard "G" like in "go"

    • Gato → GAH-toh (gah like "got," toh like "toe")

    • Guitarra → gee-TAH-rrah (gee like "geek," rrah rolled "R")

    • Girasol → hee-rah-SOL (hee like "heel," sol like "soul")

  • J (always a throaty "H" like "loch" in Scottish)

    • Jirafa → hee-RAH-fah (hee like "heat," rah like "raw")

    • Juego → HWEH-goh (hweh like "wet" with an "h," goh like "go")


R (Soft "R" taps, RR rolls like a purring cat!)

  • Soft R (single "R" at start or between vowels → light "tap" like "butter" in American English):

    • Ratón → rah-TOHN (rah like "Ron," tohn like "tone")

    • Rosa → ROH-sah (roh like "row," sah like "saw")

    • Radio → RAH-dee-oh (rah like "rod," dee like "deep")

  • Rolled RR (double "RR" or initial "R" → strong trill):

    • Perro → PEH-rroh (peh like "pet," rroh rolled tongue)

    • Carro → KAH-rroh (kah like "car," rroh rolled)


H (ALWAYS silent! Like the "H" in "hour")

  1. Hola → OH-lah (oh like "open," lah like "la")

  2. Huevo → WEH-voh (weh like "wet," voh like "vote")

  3. Hoja → OH-hah (oh like "owe," hah like "ha")
