How to use Decidim like OpenProject
Often through naming objects, we limit how we can use them. That is to say I believe that many of the parts of Decidim can be used similarly to parts in OpenProject. For example, a process contains its own phases with dates you can set, which is similar to the project phases in OpenProject.
Proposals is a Decidim module that can act as project ideas or tasks. They could hold the people who are assigned to a certain task, who are supervising, and the estimated amount of time, date, and priority. Unfortunately, each proposal does not have its set date that could appear on a Calendar module but I believe it wouldn't be very difficult to add this in. Moreover, all this information could be available for the customer to view, which could be reassuring to the customer. Moreover, regular updates could be placed in the comments by the people assigned to the task and if needed the customer could comment or place their own proposal.
The Accountability module allows you to mark the status of proposals or decisions. This means it could be an easy guide to both customers and users on how to complete a certain task. This could help remind the 'assignee' to finish their task and potentially alert the person who is supposed to be 'accountable' or anyone else. I haven't experimented with it much but I believe this is how it would work with little modification.
Calendar is a Decidim Module that was created by the community. Interestingly it possesses the capability of displaying a Gantt graph of participatory processes, which if used in conjunction with a date for every proposal could result in the same Gantt graph capability that OpenProject has.
The Budgets module was created so that there are various projects (that were decided from the proposals) with their necessary budget and you are to vote for what projects you want to be supported with the limited money you are given. Now Open Project tracks how much each task costs, and we can do something similar if we instead had every proposal/task displayed with their tasks and the total amount of money. This would directly break down the bill for the customer or it could also demonstrate the actual money used by the team for that task in the project.
Meetings can clearly be used for noting when they are held, and what is on the agenda. Moreover, after the meeting occurs it can be used to place notes on what occurred. This can be very useful for the AGILE process as we can hold the planned 'user stories' that result from the meeting.
Newsletters can also be used to remind people of any deadlines or any upcoming meetings though it may not prove very effective.
